Warning: Unless you keep your Logitech Media Server running, leaving open ports in your firewall poses a security risk. ![]() ![]() You will have to restart the LMS software after changing the Firewall, if it was already running. Since you do not want outside access to the apache web server, you do not need to concern yourself with that stuff. You might need to have both ports open and set to "Allow" (see screen shot below). I cannot tell from what I have just read if you only need one rule for port " 3483" or a rule for both ports: " 3483,9000". Check to see that the rule is now listed. It's easy to setup a Firewall rule: bring up your Firewall software in system settings, Make sure it is on (enabled), click "+ add", enter the port or ports, like 9000 or 3483, or both "3483,9000", select "any protocol", and name the rule(s) Logitech Media Server, or LMS, click "add", then "close". If you want multi-media devices to be able to see and access media files on your computer, then whatever software you are using, like the Logitech Multi-Media server, has ports they want open in your firewall software that "allow" those devices access to your computer system through this software. There is an option to easily add firewall rules for various things, like printers, torrent clients, etc. I don't think you need to modify local ports in the firewall, but if you go into your system settings, then select "firewall", you can see if it is turned on, as it should be, and any current firewall rules. The machine is running a stock LMDE2 setup, with LAMP installation on top. I should note that the machine running LMS is not running a public webserver - apache is only installed for LMS to serve music to the internal home network. ![]() I am not familiar with the current apache2 configuration, or where I should be looking to make changes (I do have a good general understanding of these things, but it has been a long time since I have had to manually edit web server configuration files, and am guessing the answer is not remotely close to whatever I might have done 15 years ago (even if I could remember what I did 15 years ago. I have been running LMDE with Logitech Media Server (LMS) for years and it always "just worked", I have never needed to muck about with the firewall configuration before, so I'm hazarding a guess that there has been a tightening of security with LMDE2 to only permit local access to port 80. That, really, is my question - what do I have to do to access port 9000 locally? Phd21 wrote: Are you sure you have any necessary firewall ports open for your setup?
